About Me
Software engineer on data platform and infrastructure, open source contributor.
Who I Am
Hi, I'm Ferdian — though online I go by ifkarsyah, my last name, because "Ferdian" is one of the most common names. I'm Indonesian, born and raised in the same country that gave the world Bali — though the archipelago has a lot more to offer than that one island.
I'm a software engineer focused on data platforms and infrastructure. I build the systems that ingest, process, store, and serve data at scale: streaming pipelines, OLAP clusters, data lakehouses, and the orchestration that ties them together.
At StraitsX, I focus on cost optimization and modernizing legacy snapshot pipelines into real-time streaming systems. Before that, at Xendit, I helped build the data engineering foundation from scratch — pipeline frameworks, infrastructure automation, and the tooling that let a growing team move fast without breaking data.
I studied Computer Science at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). A Database Systems class there lit the spark — understanding how query engines work under the hood set the direction for everything I've built since.
I care about reliability, observability, and making data trustworthy — because dashboards built on bad data are worse than no dashboards at all.
Beyond code, I'm quite a traveler — visited around 20 countries so far, exploring new cultures, cuisines, and experiences. I share my travel stories on Langkah.

Interests
Stream Processing
Real-time pipelines, windowing, watermarks, and exactly-once semantics with Flink and Kafka.
Query Engines
How databases like ClickHouse and Trino plan, optimize, and execute SQL at massive scale.
Data Platform Design
Building platforms that scale: lakehouses, data contracts, observability, and self-service patterns.
Open Source
Contributing to the data engineering ecosystem and building tools the community can rely on.
Travel & Writing
Visited around 20 countries so far. I write about the places, people, and food I encounter on Langkah.
